Sentencing Consultation

Reality Check Sentencing Consultations are available for individuals awaiting trial, sentencing, or incarceration, as well as for families and legal teams seeking additional perspective during the sentencing process.

Led by Larry Lawton, these consultations draw on lived experience and system knowledge to help provide context around incarceration, personal history, and the real-world impact of sentencing decisions. The focus is on identifying relevant background factors and offering informed insight—not legal advice or representation.

Sentencing consultations may involve interviews with the individual and family members, review of personal and situational factors, and, when appropriate, experience-based testimony offered in coordination with legal counsel. Each case is unique, and consultations are approached with care, discretion, and respect for the role of the court.
